JOHN LENNON

When you think of John Lennon, you think of when you were growing up and discovering life.

The music of John Lennon and the Beatles was always there to help you understand life and its problems. They also sang of solutions to these problems, whether they be of the world or about what any one of us might have been going through at any one time in our life. We could relate to these solutions. The Beatles tried to make us feel the way they felt, which is live in peace and share love with each other, and they did. Many generations will be touched by their music and the way they tried to change the words “peace and love” into a more powerful feeling and not just words. And they did! I feel everybody’s lives will be scarred by the death of such a loving person. John Lennon was a great musician who should have won the Nobel Peace Prize for his songs. For a moment in time, the vigil for John Lennon brought back an atmosphere long gone in this world. The feeling of peace and love exploded on everybody as the voices sang out “All we are saying is give peace a chance” along with many other Beatle and Lennon compositions. Can it be that because of this tragic loss, now we will all come together? Can we continue the dream that John Lennon imagined because we lost John? I hope so, because the memories of John Lennon are so strong that they have touched the whole world and will touch the world for generations to come. But for everyone who has come to know his magical gift, it will really be just like starting over.

Where were you on that day of December 11, 1980. Think of where you were on that tragic day of his death . If you were alive,

it’s one of those moments you never forget…I was taping a special On a New York radio station on The Doors because Morrison’s birthday was the 8th when the news came on that Lennon had been shot. So for the rest of the night I let the reel to reel run and kept switching the channels from station to station AM and FM. Yes, A.M., hoping for the best. It’s been about 22 years. I haven’t listened to that tape yet . Maybe I will this year. I also went to the vigil at Central Park I wasn’t old enough when Morrison

Joplin or Hendrix died, and I don’t know if they even had memorials, but this one was huge. Although, there was a feeling of sadness for what we lost, there were thousands of different and individualized emotions for what we had gained in his living and what he had taught us in his songs. We all were aware of how with anyone’s death, we remember what they gave us in life but we know we have to live on.

Here are a few pictures that I took at Central Park
